Altered States and Shamanic Initiation

May 11th, 2010

What are commonly called vivid dreams may be the result of deep sleep’s pineal DMT rush.  But is the “spirit molecule” stimulated from within, or by an outside force?   In the utilisation of supranormal amounts of the mystical neurotransmitter DMT, dream visions often echo archetypal shamanic experiences during altered states of consciousness (ASCs).

Considering the overlap of myriad ASCs at certain times in my life, I associate the following vision with the extraterrestrial visitations in which I was consciously immersed during the early- to mid -1990s.  The strangest thing is that another ET experiencer and I had virtually the same ASC journey, suggesting that our identically-themed “dream” wasn’t mere coincidence, but rather that we experienced the same scenario.

Independently, in an altered state of consciousness, we were both taken in a small boat with a white-robed and bearded guide across moonlit, choppy water, arriving on the shore of some island where we were both presented with the challenge of climbing over a barrier of cluttered, rusty, appliance-themed detritus.

The details seem too specific and unusual to have arisen by chance – especially between two people who’d never met and had never spoken to one another or learned about the other’s experience before having their own.  Significantly, during shamanic trance, initiates often travel over water to a place where they encounter and overcome obstacles in order to reach the otherworld.  So our experiences echo a motif of shamanic initiation and uncover a connection between ET experiences and shamanism.

Another extraordinary ASC echoing shamanic initiation occurred during another “vivid dream” when I was a small girl, perhaps 7 or 8 years old.  While asleep or at least visiting another dimension, I had an extremely vivid vision of being inside an unimaginably huge, transparent, crystalline structure – a cathedral of sorts.   For awhile I was totally inconsolable, but gradually my altered state began to fade away with a rush of waking tears, leaving me with indelible images:  The towering quartz crystals!  The overwhelming sorrow!  Waking in my mother’s arms…!

The crossing of water to encounter and overcome obstacles shares significant details with the cathedral dreams, reflecting worldwide shamanic experiences as described by Eliade.  I associate these visions and others with my apparent interactions with non-human intelligence over the years – indeed spanning my life.

If an association between these visions and a mysterious Other Intelligence exists, have I accessed that dimension accidentally -perhaps through a naturally-occurring DMT spike?  Or has this experience come to me intentionally via exogenous DMT or even by somehow stimulating an endogenous DMT release to establish the interface?

Recent Earthquakes Linked to Solar Effects on Earth’s Magnetic Field

April 13th, 2010

Beautiful graphic of solar wind impacting the planetary geomagnetic field.  Source: unknown.

Sunday, April 4th of this year, would’ve been like any other day – except that there was an unusual earthquake under West Virginia early that morning.  The next day an explosion rocked the coal mine in the near-quake zone, possibly caused by built-up toxic gasses enriched by the quake.  Twenty-nine miners lost their lives.

As far as blame goes, all eyes are on the mining company.  Yes, Massey Mining carried some violations, and those violations – specifically those related to gas venting – may have played a role in the mine tragedy.  But why no mention in the mainstream media of the earthquake near Gassaway and the Massey mine the day before the explosion?  Is the correspondence between seismic and solar activity being deliberately ignored or downplayed, despite spikes in seismic activity around 4 April 2010, the day of the West Virginia temblor and the Baja California quake?

These notable earthquakes were accompanied by an exceptionally strong solar wind which impacted Earth’s magnetosphere just before daylight hours on the 5th in North America, and “sparked the strongest geomagnetic storm of the year,” according to Spaceweather.com’s archives.  Might this strong solar wind have precipitated seismic activity by its impact on the planet’s geomagnetic field and kinetic molten magnetic core?

Spaceweather’s auroral oval graphic makes it easy to observe the gyrations of Earth’s fluxing magnetic fields and make connections between Sun and Earth activity.  The northern auroral oval was both inflamed and lopsided around the time of the West Virginia and the Mexicali quakes.  The bright orange stretching equatorward indicates that our planet’s magnetosphere is being pommelled with solar wind.  I suspect Earth’s iron core is spinning more freely due to its recent relative slumber, and reacting more vigourously to the Sun’s magnetic influences than a decade or two ago.

In other words, the planet’s poles have limbered up to the point that humans – among Earth’s most notorious freeloaders – may be thrown from the surface by a sudden worldwide jolt that one-ups recent seismic outbursts.   Readily available numbers give a general feel for what’s going on.   While I’m unsure of the implications of all the information I gather, I’m finding that increased solar wind combined with lower particle density seems to create marked instability in Earth’s crust and correspondingly-increased seismicity.

Now for some technical information, which needs to be understood in a certain context, which I’ll explain briefly: The US Geological Survey posts magnitude 1+ USA quakes for the past week here, and world quakes of 4.5+ (including US quakes 2.5+) on a separate map here.

A few weeks ago, on the morning of 25 March, 2010, there were 850 quakes on the US map, and 212 on the world map.  At the same time, I noticed Yellowstone was acting up again with a minor swarm.  By the 5th – the day after the West Virginia quake associated with the underground explosion at Massey Mine near Gassaway – the US registered a pretty strong 1313, and the world number jumped to 638.

During the last week, with Earth in the path of a strong solar windstream, the number of earthquakes grew remarkably:  2965 in the US and 1269 on the world map, as of 9 PM on Thursday, the 8th of April, 2010.  Friday the 9th I saw there are 3091 earthquakes on the USA map and 1307 on the world map.  While some of these represent aftershocks from the Mexicali 7.2, that’s still a pretty rapid jump.  Numbers continued to grow daily until the past 24 hours or so.

Observing a trend between the intensity and irregularity of the auroral oval, combined with solar activity and Earth’s seismic activity, may lead to better predictive capacities toward what seem to be Earth-based phenomena, but is really the result of a blending solar and planetary energies.  Of what value, however, is the prediction if most people can’t comprehend it, let alone feel compelled to take action? Even if forewarned of the possibility of massive, imminent Earth changes linked with flaring outbursts of 2012-era Sun rhythms, would most people have the capacity to process that information?  Might panic ensue?

A CME impacted Earth a couple of days ago, and the Sun is growing quiet once again.  This evening, Tuesday 13 April 2010, earthquake numbers are gradually receding like the tide from the shore.

As Spaceweather frequently advises, “Monitoring is encouraged.”

Giant Dragonfly Encounter in Eastern Kansas

March 4th, 2010

Was this an Interdimensional Encounter or a Glimpse of an Elusive, Living Species?

In a holographic universe, experiencing meta-dimensions of reality such as moving backward or forward in time or engaging in psychic communication with other intelligence seems to come from the mystical implicate order unfolded and made explicate by energetic alchemy.   These experiences tend to surprise us when we least expect them.  I wonder if we may also cultivate a state of mind that elicits such encounters from otherwise mundane activities.

I experienced a possible interdimensional breach, one with which Bohm may’ve had a field day, back in the mid-1980s.   I was driving east on I-35 in eastern Kansas one hot and sticky summer day, my ’67 Mustang rumbling across the heatwaves, windows down, my hair blowing in wind, when something moving near a billboard on the right side of the highway caught my attention.  A giant dragonfly, I mean absolutely breathtakingly huge and just beautiful, perfectly and utterly gorgeous, hovered in the air – rather like a modern dragonfly (most species of which don’t exceed a few inches in span), but much bigger than anything known to exist today.  I’ve generally thought of it as having a 3 to 5 feet wingspan.

Whatever its size, surely such a dragonfly either exists in a parallel dimension or lives discreetly on our planet, well hidden from modern prying eyes.  It looked a bit like this:

No joke, I did a double take, triple take, whatever.  I looked as long as I could, which was too short for satisfaction – just a couple of seconds.

Years later I was somewhat surprised to learn that fossils of this (or a similar) species, from 260 million years ago, were found in the 1960s near Elmo, Kansas – not all that far from where I caught a glimpse of a giant, “extinct” dragonfly hovering near the highway.

Did the Sun’s Great Magnetic Filament Spark Chile Earthquake?

February 27th, 2010

One of the strongest earthquakes on record, a magnitude 8.8, hit central Chile early today.  Tsunami warnings have been issued all coastal areas in the path of waves radiating from the quake zone.  Numerous aftershocks nearing magnitude 7 have occurred since then and continue at this time, 12 hours after the quake.

The fault along the western side of Chile and under the Pacific ocean apparently slipped dramatically, which is an important consideration in the prediction and observation of waves capable of producing tsunamis.  The strongest earthquake on record ever hit the same area of Chile almost exactly 50 years ago.

Coinciding with this huge earthquake today we are possibly in the path of ejecta from a huge filament on the Sun that stretched over a million kilometres long and which erupted on the 24 February.  At the moment the geomagnetic effects of this filament’s activity and a possible (as yet unreported) Hyder flare are unknown.

Spaceweather.com reports in their archive for 25 February 2010 that “…The ‘Great Magnetic Filament’ on the sun that we’ve been tracking for the past week finally erupted yesterday… The event did not produce a bright solar flare, as sometimes happens when filaments erupt, but there was a coronal mass ejection (CME). SOHO coronagraphs observed at least one and possibly as many as three clouds billowing away from the sun… If any of this material is heading for Earth – a big unknown! – it would arrive on Feb. 27th or 28th.”  (italics added)

As the Sun continues to “rub its eyes” upon awakening from a exceptionally deep solar minimum, we should be aware of associated Earth changes.  We are not yet in the throes of solar max, and if current activity is any indication, we should anticipate more severe disruptions of the Earth’s geomagnetic field and tectonic/volcanic activity, which in turn impacts the surface temperature of Earth as well as her oceans, thus cascading effects on weather and climate.

We are all going to be affected by these changes in our planetary and immediate environment.  The alignment of our Solar System with ecliptic of the Milky Way, combined with unpredictable and intensifying solar activity, I feel is key to the permanent transformation of Earth and her inhabitants.  A cycle which we cannot control is taking over, so we had best hang on for the ride of our lives!

While some changes are devastating, it’s important to remember that others may prove to be helpful.  Now is the time to focus conscious intent on maximising recent DNA upgrades that may have accompanied the recent intense bombardment of Earth by cosmic rays, along with which lifeforms of all types seem to be developing new high-level abilities.

Perhaps through accelerated evolutionary changes in our DNA, which seems to be been programmed for general “improvement,” life is preparing to leave this planet and move on to other places – even other dimensions entirely – in order to survive a catastrophic demise of most or all life on Earth.  The 2012 era is upon us, and perhaps sooner rather than later we will learn the implications of that fact.

Synchronicity and the Brzee Mantra

February 22nd, 2010
Hatshepsut

Om Brzee Namaha…Om Brzee Namaha…

A few days ago I learned the Brzee mantra, one used to help manage financial issues and overcome scarcity.  The fellow from whom I learn the mantra writes, “Om Brzee Namaha.  Brzee Brzee Brzee!”

I like the sound of it, and at this point I’m willing to try just about anything to bring relief to my financial woes.  So between calls at work I’m closing my eyes, envisioning colourful organic mandalas and repeating my new mantra.  Like a lullaby, soon the words create an altered state, gradually feeling like an extension of myself.

The arrangement of sounds plays its destined role:  Om rolls off my tongue, unfolding like scrolls of promise all around me; my money awareness is magnified by the upward inflection of brzee; my whole being exhales namaha.

Suddenly a tone from my headset alerts me to a call, jarring me from my short reverie.  Amazingly, the name that pops up on my screen is “Brzuszkiewicz.”  Note the first three letters:  Brz – as in Brzee Brzee Brzee. I notice the three Zs in Brzuszkiewicz.  I’m fairly confident pronouncing odd names, so I ask for the prospect with a smile, “May I speak with Mrs. Bre-zes-keh-veetz?”

When synchronicity speaks, I listen.  The correspondence of Brzee and Brzuszkiewicz amplifies a realisation that financial recovery and balance will come through publishing my work in book form.  I know this because in the course of our conversation, Mrs. Brzuszkiewicz explains that she and her husband owned Hathshepsut Press, spelling it out letter by letter.

I recognise the word as Egyptian but don’t know what it means.  After the call I search the internet for Hathshepsut, but oddly find no mention of any similarly-named publishing house.  Instead I’m guided toward the more common spelling of Hatshepsut, and learn that she was an Egyptian pharaoh reigning in the 15th century BCE.

Hatshepsut was a powerful woman who didn’t just sit on ideas; she accomplished many great things.  What would Hatshepsut have said?  What would she have done?  Do it.  Just do it.  What are you waiting for?

I reach up and take hold of the 2009 Writer’s Market that’s been gathering dust on top of my hard drive and begin the process…

Bigfoot, Birds, and UFOs

February 4th, 2010

Location of Bigfoot Expedition near Leadville, Colorado

I was walking through the dark, dark woods late at night with a few other adventurers during the Paranormal Research Forum’s 2008 Bigfoot Expedition near Leadville, Colorado.  We were making a focused attempt to contact Sasquatch in a part of Colorado with a relatively high number of reported sightings of Bigfoot, and the energy was high.  I didn’t sense any fear among those in our group.

Suddenly we noticed through the trees a single, exceptionally bright, unblinking yellow light in the sky ahead of us.  It was making a beeline toward the forest where we all watched it, thinking it may be a spectacular satellite.  But when it got directly over us, the light simply disappeared.

A quick check of the heaven’s above website the next day revealed that, in fact, nothing remotely resembling what we saw was supposed to be in the sky at that time and place – i.e., it wasn’t the Space Station, nor was it any reported satellite.

Based on what I’ve learned about Bigfoot and UFOs, I can’t dismiss the yellow light as a mere coincidence.  It appeared at just the right time in just the right place.  The light in the sky wasn’t guttural howling or the tree hammering that we were anticipating, but may have instead been a basic sign of recognition, considering we were attempting to contact Bigfoot.

In The Psychic Sasquatch and their UFO Connection, Bigfoot researcher Jack “Kewaunee” Lapseritis describes how visitors to wilderness areas populated by Sasquatch are often followed and closely monitored by birds, such as hawks and ravens.  Kewaunee, who has been documenting his and others’ encounters for decades, feels that the birds are recruited to telepathically convey what humans are doing while Sasquatch is busy with other tasks.  Thus, birds “keep an eye on things” and communicate back to Sasquatch what they see.

Anecdotal evidence from numerous witnesses who have interacted with Sasquatch suggests that these “creatures of myth” are not only real, but are associated with UFOs, communicate telepathically, and can slip in and out of view via interdimensional portals.  So it’s no surprise whatsoever they’d be able to use birds as purveyors of surveillance.

At some point it occurred to me that if birds are associated with Sasquatch and if Sasquatch are associated with UFOs, perhaps birds are used in other contexts to draw our eyes up to UFOs we’d otherwise miss.  I suppose it made sense to me to see this connection, since in recent years I’ve encountered at least two UFO incidents that I would have missed had my attention not been caught by high-flying, circling birds…

A few years ago I saw a hawk or an eagle or some kind of bird that looked so large and so perfect circling overhead that I thought it might be a fancy kite.  I took my binoculars and honed in on the smooth sailing bird, and it was so beautifully shaped and coloured that I questioned whether it was an actual, living bird or something else.  Since the nearest open space is about a half mile from my house, I didn’t see how it could be a kite.

I didn’t have much time to think about it since I was quickly distracted by a silver dumbbell shaped object, then another and another (three total) that passed through my field of vision east to west.  These UFOs, each essentially composed of side-by-side disks with one side a little larger in diameter than the other and connected with the mere hint of a middle bar, glided over me quickly.

These weren’t tumbling in the wind like you might expect a balloon to, but rather appeared to be quite deliberately flying over my house in formation – almost like they were on a mission.  I took down the binoculars, but couldn’t see the bird nor the UFOs without magnification; they were that high up and must not have been reflecting a lot of light.  I quickly looked again through the binocs and luckily got the smallest (or highest) one in view just before it went over the roof line and out of sight.

The next time a bird accompanied a sighting was one evening when I was sitting on a lawn chair on the back patio, watching the sky for one of the stationary “day stars” that I used to see so frequently just to the east of overhead.  Soon I noticed a solitary bird circling very, very high to the southeast, and I knew it must be an eagle or some other huge bird for me to see it at such a distance.

I didn’t get a great look at the bird through binoculars because as soon as I locked in on it, a shiny silver ball sitting in the sky behind it caught my attention.  I continued to watch the silver ball as the bird went out of the viewfinder.

After awhile I reluctantly took down the binocs to see if I could see the bird or the UFO with the naked eye, and I still saw the eagle, but not the UFO.  Luckily I found the UFO again through binoculars, though the bird wasn’t my guide this time.  I found the silver ball only by scanning the sky slowly.  It remained stationary and visible for several minutes, until the Sun went down.

I found this similar sighting at the National UFO Reporting Center website:

Occurred : 9/21/2002 13:00 (Entered as : 9/21-02 1300)
Reported: 9/23/2002 2:07:14 PM 14:07
Posted: 3/21/2003
Location: Columbine, CO
Shape: Circle
Duration:45 Minutes Round silver object seen only through binoculars that remained stationary for over 30 minutes.

While my wife and I were hunting approximatley [sic] 6 miles north of Columbine, Colorado which is about 30 miles north of Steamboat Springs, we saw a round silver object in the sky,,,this object could not be seen with the naked eye. I was looking through my binoculars at an eagle when I noticed the object. The sky was very blue and clear and there was definitely something in the sky. I handed the binoculars over to my wife and I gave her the approximate direction in the sky. It took her a minute or two, but she also saw it. …After 40 minutes, we could not find the object again in the same portion of the sky. We scanned the area for several minutes.

I wonder how many unreported UFO sightings also started with the sighting of a large bird…?

Yellowstone Wake-Up Call Heard in Denver?

February 1st, 2010

The current Yellowstone earthquake swarm is now “the second-largest ever recorded in the park,” according to researchers quoted in the NY Times.

Shortly after 1 AM this morning, the 1st of February 2010, I awakened and was lying in bed listening to the quiet of the night.  No traffic disturbed the silence as the city slept in anticipation of Monday morning and the new work week.  Then around 1.15 AM I heard a sudden loud, sharp cracking sound coming from my house, similar to the settling of an old building.  The noise surprised me since my house is extraordinarily quiet other than seasonal creaking associated with a massive elm’s root growth cycle.

My first thought?  Yellowstone.  Yes, Yellowstone.

There will, of course, be naysayers out there who will write off what I’m about to report as a simple coincidence.  But statistically speaking, this event stands out.  After all, I’d never before thought that any noise in my house was possibly related to seismic activity occurring 600 miles away.

Yet somehow, quickly and intuitively, I made a connection between the sound I’d just heard and Yellowstone.  I noted the time on my fairly-accurate bedside clock and determined that first thing in the morning I’d check out the Yellowstone quake log posted by the USGS to see if I could link the unusual cracking sound I heard a little before 1.15 AM with a quake.

Sure enough, this morning I booted up the computer and here’s what I found:  a modest, magnitude 2.6 quake rumbled under Yellowstone at 1.11 this morning, Monday the 1st of February.  More precisely, the USGS site noted the time of the quake as 08:10:42 UT, which is 7 hours ahead of Mountain time, and just moments before I heard the noise – accounting for the time it takes for seismic waves to travel through the Earth’s crust.

So even though I didn’t feel the Earth move, my house may have registered the quake with a bit of shifting and creaking that could easily be dismissed if certain “earthquake risk factors” I’ve written about recently didn’t exist.

For instance, an almost-overlooked mild solar wind stream arrived on the 30th, stirring up Earth’s geomagnetic field and resulting in some nice Norwegian auroras.  And last night when I got up after hearing the sound, the extraordinary glow of 2010’s perigee moon bathed the house in a soft glow that enchanted me on the one hand, and on the other made me wonder if the moon’s gravity might result in increased gravitational pull on Earth’s stressed tectonic plates.  Finally, Yellowstone hadn’t had a magnitude 2 quake in a couple of days.

With all these factors in place, pressure would likely build.

Even though I can’t prove the noise was in any way related to the quake, when it happened there was absolutely no rationalising, no sign of Occam.  There was simply a knowing, and there still is, that Mother Earth is speaking – and if we listen hard enough, we just might get her message.

STACE TUSSEL

Addendum:  A small earthquake (mag 2.5) hit near Oklahoma City the same day I wrote this article.  A line between Yellowstone and the Oklahoma quake zone near Oklahoma City just skirts the northeastern part of the Denver metro area.  Coincidence, or part of a linked fault line?  I’m simply mentioning it as food for thought…

Mid-Continent US Earthquakes Increasing Since Haiti Quake

January 19th, 2010

seismogram

seismogram

Seismograph, 2005. Courtesy http://science.uniserve.edu.au

Is Increased Seismic Activity Related to Solar Cycle 24???

The Denver Post reported yesterday that “Yellowstone National Park has been rattled by more than 250 earthquakes in the past two days following a period of 11 months of quiet seismic activity in the park. The quakes have been gaining strength, with a magnitude 3.1 tremor recorded at 11:03 a.m…. Prof. Robert B. Smith, a geophysicist at the University of Utah and one of the leading experts on earthquake and volcanic activity at Yellowstone, said that the activity is a ‘notable swarm.'” Read more.

As I’ve been writing this article today, I’ve noticed that most recently a new Post article has come out that relays information easily obtained on the USGS website, indicating two new, stronger tremors just this afternoon that seem to be creeping toward the 4.0 mark  – see here.

Certainly Yellowstone sees its share of mild earthquakes during these occasional swarms, but as the Denver Post pointed out, this surge of recent and increasing activity follows a relatively-quiet period, so I’m monitoring the USGS earthquake activity site, which shows today that a stronger earthquake hit Yellowstone early this morning, the 19th, registering a 3.4 on the Richter Scale.

I’ve actually been writing this article all day during lulls at work today, and I’ve just learned that a couple hours ago, at about 3 PM Mountain Time (Tuesday the 29th), there were two more temblors at Yellowstone, each bigger than before, both registering a more interesting magnitude 3.6.

If I were scheduled for a Yellowstone vacation, you can bet I’d be postponing it as of today!

We may be the beginning of a somewhat disturbing trend….

In summary: the current Yellowstone swarm intensified yesterday – the same day that northern New Mexico recorded an unusually strong temblor of magnitude 4.1 (or thereabout).   And just three days prior to that, on the 15th, Oklahoma recorded its strongest quake in over 10 years, a magnitude 4.0.

This activity highlights a cluster of increased-magnitude quakes over the central United States, coinciding with the horrific Haiti earthquake on the 12th.

“There is absolutely no connection between what is occurring in Yellowstone and the magnitude 7.0 earthquake in Haiti,” reported the Denver Post. “They are completely different systems,” doctoral student Jamie Farrell told the Post. “They are not related.”

Farrell’s assertion that the earthquakes are not related because they “are completely different systems,” indicates that he’s referring to a the absence of a clear tectonic plate link.  I suspect that a different link exists between the devastating Haitian quake and the subsequent increased activity in the west-central United States during the past week, having less to do with a crustal continuity of fault lines and much more with other correlating factors which are ultimately much more difficult, if not impossible, to dismiss.  (See my post just prior to this one.)

Here’s what I’m noticing:  we’ve got quite a cluster of earthquakes going, their outbursts coinciding with active solar windstorms exerting pressure on the Earth’s fragile crust.  We should not underestimate the strength of the Sun’s awakening and its effects on Earth as a geomagnetic system – literally, to our planet’s very core.  People pay attention to the beautiful affects of solar wind; the northern lights, for instance, have been extraordinarily active in the past couple of days – but is their enchanting display lulling us into the arms of a present danger?

A few of you have probably heard that the Norway Spiral that heralded the beginning of Europe and Asia’s unseasonably snowy and cold winter may have been the result of human tampering (oh my) of the HAARP variety, puncturing the thermosphere and allowing an outflow of heat (thus, Europe’s deep freeze) and creating a window for solar wind to slam into the Earth’s crust.

I’m no scientist, but I’m thinking cosmic geomagnetic interactions between the Sun and the Earth could be impacting the molten core of Earth in ways that we could not have predicted – at the apparent dawning of Solar Cycle 24’s Solar Max.

If the thermosphere has indeed been breached and the inner core of our planet is abuzz with a polar shift accelerated by solar wind, then what possible effects could that have on the core and crust in totality?  Not just fault lines that can be connected like dots on graph paper?  Could Yellowstone’s ancient, restless magma be ready to bust at the seams?  Let’s hope not.

At this writing these mid-continent North American earthquakes are notable in both number and size, and all indications are that they’re growing.  Stay tuned!

STACE TUSSEL

PS – For all you armchair seismologists out there, take out your US map.  Put a dot on the map a bit west of Raton, NM and another dot just to the SE of West Yellowstone, MT, where two of the strongest US quakes in the last few days have happened.  Notice that the line runs through Craig, CO – where a good-sized quake made the news last August, 2009.  Hmmm…

Link Between Solar Activity and Earthquakes

January 14th, 2010

Current solar activity related to Haiti earthquake?

The Sun is erupting; Earth is reeling.  And we had better brace ourselves.  With the increase in sunspots since December, we’re seeing more earthquakes around the world…and it’s no mere coincidence.

The surge of sunspots over the past month has culminated in the relatively behemoth 1040, actually the remains of sunspot 35, which traversed the Sun’s face about a week ago and was expected to dissipate quickly.  Instead the churning magnetic field made it all the way across the Sun’s backside and, in rare fashion, turned back into a raging sunspot again, stronger and more defined than ever.

And so it appears that the long and rather strange hibernation of the Sun is coming to an end.

Our magnetosphere is being battered by particle-charged streams coming from the Sun as well as galactic cosmic rays being propelled into our solar system.  Earth is like the ball in a cosmic tennis game.  Her crust can bear so much buffeting.  Nebraska and Oklahoma recorded earthquakes in the past month, just two odd spots along shuddering fault lines all over the planet shifting as Earth entrains with the fiery rhythm of the Sun.

In the first two weeks of the year, an active sunspot region and an equatorial, Earth-facing coronal hole have developed and become prominent, if transient, features.  Geomagnetic effects are jarring Earth’s crust and weakening the supports we depend on.  As solar activity grows, as it will, the quantifiable link between solar activity and earthquakes predicts that we’ll see more extremes:  more earthquakes, more floods. Because of the tectonics involved, more active volcanism is likely too.

The devastation might take many by surprise, as it did a few days ago.

On the afternoon of 12 January 2010, Haiti fell, collapsing in an unanticipated snapshot of time.  Port-au-Prince shook and tumbled and cried out from its deepest heart, brought down in seconds by the strongest earthquake the country has borne for two centuries.  My tears are meager offerings at this time.

The Sun was also speaking loudly that day:  a 15% chance of an M-Class flare was predicted (but didn’t occur), and the solar wind’s density was a relatively high 7.2 protons/cm3.  We still haven’t seen an M-Class flare yet in Solar Cycle 24, but the chance is higher now than in recent memory:  at the time of this writing, we face a 1-in-5 chance of experiencing an M-Class flare, and windstream density is currently just 1.6 protons/cm3.

When will the next big flare up occur?  Haiti’s the latest victim, but what other regions on Earth are vulnerable to seismic and volcanic activity?  What can we do to prepare?

All of this activity is conceivably leading up to a truly epic solar maximum, which should peak in the next few years – just in time for 2012.  If so, my friend, we either make peace with leaving or we try to save ourselves.  Therein lies the great question of our time – one we’ll surely ponder as we approach the horizon of an era.

Greys From Mars?

January 7th, 2010

Nuanced Grey, by Stace Tussel.  Oil, circa 1995.

World media, in a coordinated fashion, seems to be closing in on an admission of an ET presence, and recent news in particular seems to intently focus on life on Mars.  I’ve been following this cascade of revolutionary information for some time.  With increased disclosures in the first days of 2010, I’m reminded of just how close Mars is to Earth.  A recently released photo of lake beds on the planet’s surface may even show evidence of the habitation – current, past, or both – of Mars.

If life ever existed on Mars, then advanced lifeforms certainly could have evolved.  Living on Mars’ brutally cold surface would require planning and technical expertise, and Marsians would need to be resourceful – and intelligent – to survive.  Enclosed environments designed to withstand weather extremes might be manufactured with superior materials in order to house controlled ET communities.  But perhaps Marsians would prefer to reside underground, protected from the cold climate and intense radiation.  Mars has a molten core similar to Earth’s, and since Mars is smaller, its heat may be more accessible – meaning inner-Mars may well provide a suitable environs for ETs.

Marsians would likely need relatively little oxygen, light, and food, as compared to their Earthbound neighbours.  I imagine they might share characteristics of the Greys of modern fame (or notoriety, depending on one’s point of view).  For instance, they wouldn’t need stomachs and lungs, at least not to the degree humans do.  In order to carry on their race, Marsians would need to adapt, via natural or artificial evolution, and DNA manipulation, to the environment in which they reside.

Whether Grey Marsians were to live primarily on the surface or deep underground, their big, black, wraparound eyes serve a purpose.  The Greys’ eyes, which I recall as a hypnotic array of many small, velvety, black hexagons, may also function as virtual sunglasses for surface dwellers.  In contrast, the large dark eyes may be all-pupil, allowing inner-planet residents to absorb as much of the visual field as possible.

Possibly the eyes function in divergent capacities, as needed.

Established arguments against the existence of UFOs and ETs, primarily based on the perceived limitations of distances measured in light years, are quickly becoming archaic as evidence for them mounts.  Perceived reality is shifting, as it always has, with the tide of human knowledge.  Perhaps for the first time in recorded history, humans are learning that a habitable planet other than Earth is within reasonable reach.  Perhaps one day even the staunchest skeptic will realise that ET really is as close as swamp gas and weather balloons…

NOTE:  I prefer Marsian over the outdated and stereotypical “Martian.”
